I hate procrastination.
When I think about how many times I’ve blown opportunities and even money wasted, it makes my stomach turn.
So why do we procrastinate?
Why do we lie to ourselves about time? ⏳
We do this with project after project…🤦🏾
These are not new questions yet we still wrestle for a simplified anecdote. Countless books, blogs, and articles have been written about this topic and many have provided great insight, yet to little or no avail.
The real reason we procrastinate is because we don’t enjoy the process of getting better. Working towards greatness demands so much from us.
Quite frankly, the process sucks.
I want to contribute two thoughts for consideration and highlight some not so obvious factors as to why many married entrepreneurs procrastinate.
🔜 OVERCONFIDENCE WITH A LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Being overconfident makes us underestimate what it will take to get a job done.
This is why we tend to make excuses and rationalize why we can do something later.
It’s taking for granted that things (even outside of our control) will likely happen how
we expect them too.
🛠️ THE FIX: Treat the things that don’t seem urgent like they’re urgent.
🔜 CALIBRATE YOUR GOALS AND THEN GO OVERBOARD
Most of have pretty lofty goals when it comes to entrepreneurship.
Between the two of you there’s often one of you that’s more idealistic than the other.
Lofty goals without self-discipline and sound strategy are a recipe for procrastination.
Why? Because the whenever we fall short of our goals we feel like we’ve lost.
🛠️ THE FIX: MAKE ATTAINABLE GOALS AND GET THEM DONE FAST. WITH EACH GOAL CHECKED OFF YOU’LL FEEL A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT. USE THAT FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT TO SPARK MOMENTUM AND THAT MOMENTUM WILL HELP YOU GO BEYOND THE EXTRA MILE.
Anyone who plans to live out their calling and achieve greatness will
pay for it. We pay in time, discipline, fun, pleasure, and money.
We can’t do what 98% of the population does and expect to be fulfilled.
